SKIPnROPE is an Irish owned company providing skipping workshops for schools in Ireland. The aim is to introduce children and teachers to the world of skipping. Skipping is a terrific form of exercise that helps a child’s agility, balance, hand-eye co-ordination and can increase speed through footwork. It teaches children about rhythm and when put into team routines, it provides them with team work skills and encourages them to have confidence in their sporting ability. It is a great way to exercise, maintain good health while having lots of fun. The workshop is a great initiative to help gain the Active School Flag Award or as part of Active Week.

In the SKIPnROPE workshops, I provide the use of skipping ropes to the children for each session on the day. Pupils will learn a host of footwork skills, beginner to intermediate skipping tricks, long rope games and partner skipping. For schools that have already learned the basics of skipping, I aim to challenge them with new routines, tricks, along with developing teamwork skills like partner skipping, long rope and team games.

I will teach every class in the school for approximately 30-40mins depending on the number of classes in the school. Once all the workshops have taken place, the pupils provide a demonstration of the skips learnt throughout the day. During the sessions, I will be picking children to perform in front of the school. The demonstration is 30-40 minutes long; it gives the pupils the chance to see the skills other classes have learnt. I feel it is important for the children to see other pupils performing these tricks so they can learn from each other out on the yard at lunch time or at home.

We used SKIPnROPE as part of our active schools week. I had heard excellent reports from other teachers. Safe to say it did not dissapoint. I can honestly say every child was fully engaged and loved it. Mark caters for every child so all children benefit from the workshop.
It definetly was a big hit in Dangan National School.
We will 100 percent be booking again.

We’ve had Mark on 3 occasions for skipping workshops in St. Senan’s P.S. Mark pitches his workshop at the most suitable level for the children and he develops a great rapport with them. Mark’s enthusiasm creates a great atmosphere and the children respond accordingly. Mark has brought different aspects to his workshop on each occasion bringing new challenges and keeping it fresh. To quote one of our pupils “He’s quare good at skipping”

Seamus Kavanagh, St. Senan’s P.S. Enniscorthy.

Tá Mark tar éis cúpla cuairt a thabhairt ar Scoil Oilibhéir agus baineann na páistí idir thaitneamh agus thairbhe as gach cuairt. Bíonn sé in ann atmaisféar dearfach a chruthú agus freastalaíonn sé ar gach cumas. Cuireann sé borradh faoin ngníomhaíochgt sa chlós agus sa bhaile leis an mbealach nua0aimseartha atá aige chun na seanscileanna scipeála a mhúineadh.  Ceann de na cuairteoirí is fiúntaí agus is fearr a bhíonn againn. Is mór an buntáiste é go bhfuil an Ghaeilge ar a thoil aige. Mholfainn d'aon scoil Mark a fháil isteach, ní bheidh díomá oraibh.

We have had Mark out to our school over the past few years and it is an experience we all enjoy. His high energy approach is a hit with even the most reluctant children. His ability to pitch skills to groups is incredible. The highlight is the ‘skills show’ at the end of the day. The children love watching all the skills learned throughout the school.
We would highly recommend any school getting Mark in for some workshops! We can’t wait to have him back!!
